While training for my first Ironman I asked myself that question. When pools were closed during the pandemic I got my chance.
I was connected to a group of open water swimmers and completed my first 5KM swim. For a short time I forgot all about COVID 19 and didn’t care one bit if the pools would ever open again.
I heard swimmers talking about doing a 10K swim. What? I didn’t even know this was a thing…like I could just keep swimming?
No races, no pressure…just swimming.
But how?
I knew how to write a training plan for triathletes. I did research and had conversations with other experienced swimmers who answered my questions about training for long distance open water swims.
I created a plan and successfully worked up to the 10K distance, then 10 miles and my longest swim so far... 10 hours!
I found the kind of swimming my heart had been searching for my whole life.
